Colin Farrell gained 40 lbs: would you kick him out of bed for eating burgers?

Colin Farrell still makes my teeth sweat. I was looking at these ^^ pictures of him walking into Jimmy Kimmel’s show from Tuesday and found him so hot I kind of forgot what I was supposed to write about. Colin is making the rounds to promote his movie with Rachel Weisz, The Lobster, which went into wide release May 13. In the movie, set in a dystopian future that has outlawed being single, his character David needs to fall in love in 45 days or be turned into an animal. To help us believe that Colin would have any problem finding love, he altered his person enough to look slightly less hot. The Lobster director Yorgos Lanthimos thought that instead of making the character too thin, he should be “soft,” so Colin gained 40 pounds in 8 weeks by eating cheeseburgers for breakfast.

He’s usually quite svelte.

So when Colin Farrell was asked to gain weight for the upcoming film The Lobster, he had to take some drastic measures.

The 39-year-old actor told Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday just how he went about gaining the weight needed for the role in the critically acclaimed dramedy.

When asked about his epic weight gain, the actor gave a little background as to why he had to accumulate the pounds for the role.

‘I gained about 40 to 45 pounds. The director said if he [the character] was too thin then there would be “a psychological issue, we don’t want to confuse the audience.”‘

He went on to detail his nutrition regimen, which went on for eight weeks before the shoot.

‘I ate cheeseburgers for breakfast, for 48 hours,’ he revealed, before cheekily describing another weight gain secret.

‘You get used to sleeping with crumbs in the bed, my first meal of the day for two months was whatever crumbs I didn’t get to finish the night before.’

Colin said later in the interview that he took the 40 pounds off in 8 weeks as well and that it sucked. I am not sure how much sway I have in Hollywood but I would like to outlaw weight as a talking point for actors. I don’t want to hear about them gaining it or losing it or even lifting it. They can do it all they want but just stop talking about it. At least during this interview (posted below), Colin tried to stress that this is something that actors have to do for their job and in no way is it safe to gain and lose that kind of weight so quickly. I am, however, fairly certain the only reason he brought up the whole topic of crumbs in the bed was to taunt us into answering the question of kicking him out.

Wednesday night, Colin stopped by Conan O’Brien. With next Tuesday being Colin’s 40th birthday, he admitted he is in denial about his age. He told Conan, “I read a script a couple of months ago and it said the character, Sam, was middle-aged and I was like, what the f—.” So he fired his agent.

He was only teasing about firing his agent, though, which is good as it is looking like True Detective Season 3 is not happening.
