Does Gabe die in Locke and Key season 2?
We’ve finally made it, Locke and Key fans. The new season is out on Netflix today and it’s answering so many questions we had from that season 1 cliffhanger.
In Locke and Key season 1, Kinsey (Emilia Jones) gets herself in a bit of a love triangle after starting up romances with her classmates, Scot (Petrice Jones) and Gabe (Griffin Gluck). Both guys help her out in trying to uncover the secret powers of the magic keys, but in the end it’s revealed that one of them is actually evil.
In the finale, we see that Dodge used the Identity Key to turn herself into Gabe, and Gabe then starts full-on dating Kinsey.
Going into Locke and Key season 2, we know that Gabe is not who he says he is, but it takes Kinsey a little while to figure it out.
Spoilers ahead for Locke and Key season 2.
Throughout Locke and Key season 2, Gabe is working with Eden (Hallea Jones), who was turned into a demon in the season 1 finale, making her do his dirty work. Gabe is desperate to figure out how to make his own key, and of course, he tries to use his relationship with Kinsey to find out more information.
By episode 8, Kinsey is suspicious of Gabe spending time with Eden. While Eden is passed out drunk at a party, Kinsey and Scot go into her mind and they discover that Gabe is actually Dodge. Of course, this is heartbreaking for Kinsey who realizes she had been betrayed.
Though Kinsey loved who she thought Gabe was, she realizes that she and her family have to take him down. If killing Dodge — and Gabe in the process — is the only way to stop the evil, that’s what they have to do.
In the Locke and Key season 2 finale, there’s a huge fight scene between the Lockes and Dodge’s demons. Dodge has Kinsey in chains and it looks like Kinsey might very well die, but not before Tyler comes up behind Dodge and uses the Alpha key on her.
The Alpha key can be used to kill demons, and as we learned earlier with Jackie (Genevieve Kang), it also kills the host. This means that Tyler kills both Dodge and Gabe at this moment.
Later on in the finale, we see candles and a little memorial outside of Gabe’s room at school. A newspaper Nina Locke (Darby Stanchfield) reads says that there were nine casualties in the cliffside collapse, meaning Gabe’s death is likely being explained that way.
Locke and Key season 2 ends on another cliffhanger (!), but we don’t believe Dodge or Gabe will be back in the third season. The finale sets up another threat in town, which we’re sure we’ll see much more of in the next season.
Locke and Key season 3 doesn’t have a release date yet, but we do know it’s in the works! In the meantime, stream all 10 episodes of the second season on Netflix now.
