The music star was in the band for 25 years before his tragic death. Although there were questions surrounding the bandâs future after the unexpected loss, the group vowed to continue, releasing an emotional statement to their fans online.
Taylor Hawkinsâ death happened hours before the band was due to perform
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room in Colombia, where he was scheduled to perform with the band later that evening.
Emergency services were called up to the 50-year-oldâs room as he was complaining of chest pains, where he was found unresponsive and tragically declared dead at the scene.
His cause of death was not immediately revealed, but toxicology tests later showed he had at least 10 substances in his body.
âColombiaâs attorney generalâs office said analysis of Hawkinsâ urine found traces of marijuana, opioids, tricyclic antidepressants, and benzodiazepines, which can be used to treat insomnia or anxiety,â the Guardian reported.
Columbian Magazine Semana claimed the music star died of a sudden cardiac arrest âcaused by an overdose of heroin, antidepressants and benzodiazepines.â
They also claimed forensic experts had been âshockedâ at how swollen his hands had become.
What the band said after the drummerâs death
After the unexpected death, the band released a statement, which read: âThe Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us for ever.â
On the night he died, the stage the band was meant to perform on at the EstĂ©reo Picnic festival in BogotĂĄ, turned into a candlelit video. The band didnât perform again until May 2023, aside from tribute shows to Taylor.
However, at the end of 2022, they released a statement via Instagram, white concluded: âWe Know that when we see you again â and we will soon â heâll be there in spirit with all of us every night,â after explaining theyâd be a âdifferent bandâ going forward.
A month later, frontman Dave Grohl shared a handwritten note on the platform, thanking fans for âbeing there for themâ during their difficult return to the stage.
âEvery night, when I see you singing, it makes me sing harder. When I see you screaming, it makes me scream louder. When I see your tears, it brings me to tears,â wrote the former Nirvana member.
âAnd when I see your joy, it brings me joy. But, I see you⊠and it feels good to see you, churning up these emotions together. Because weâve always done this together. Time and time again. See you soon.â
