Helena Bonham Carter enjoys Malibu Beach in a swimsuit

Quirky British actress Helena Bonham Carter took to Malibu beach this weekend in a red one-piece swimsuit, and naturally the Daily Mail was all over it. Don’t forget, the Daily Mail makes over 75% of their money writing stories about celebrities’ imperfections (okay random stat I just fabricated), which they amp up to ridiculous levels. They did a whole series on the ghastly knees that shocked the word. They’ve covered misshapen ears that were really just normal but look odd in a close-up. As I suppose most ears could, if you stopped to really think about them too much. A teeny tiny bit of cellulite on a twenty-something, and she’s instantly labeled as having the body of a sixty year old. So given all that, naturally they were not too enthused about Helena’s natural, un-Photoshopped body. Can you believe she left the house without wearing her Photoshop?

The costume appeared slightly too small for Helena’s ample curves and it looked as if she needed a bit more support in the bust area. The Room With A View star has been enjoying some time out filming in the forthcoming Harry Potter sequels with her family in Malibu, where she has a home with director partner Tim Burton.

Enjoying the balmy 23 degrees sunshine, Helena frolicked on the beach with her cute 21-month-old daughter Nell. While Helena’s pale skin was exposed to the sun in her revealing swimming costume, the toddler was covered up in a pretty sundress covered in flowers and butterflies.

Later on, the pair were joined by Nell’s father Tim Burton, who has been hard at working editing his Alice in Wonderland movie, which also stars Helena.

Helena is juggling parenthood to daughter Nell and five-year-old Billy Raymond with her busy acting schedule. As well as playing the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland, Helena is also reprising her role as the evil Bellatrix L’Estrange in the two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

I actually think Helena looks fine – quite lovely even. She’s under no obligation to the rest of us in terms of her body. She’s 43, has two children, one of whom is just 21 months old. If I look anything near as good as she does at that age, I will consider it a major, major triumph. We all have our own shape and we all age differently. Just because Person A does it one way doesn’t mean they’re superior to Person B who’s aged a different way. It just is what it is.

The pictures, by the way, are adorable. Helena and Tim look like they’re really having a fabulous time and truly enjoy their kids.
