Is Ghana’s Sulemana Abdul Samed the tallest man in the world?
Sulemana Abdul Samed is a 29-year-old man from Ghana and was thought to be the tallest man in the world, standing 9 feet 6 inches tall.
According to the BBC, Samed, who comes from a hamlet in Northern Ghana, was given a gigantism diagnosis a few years ago.
However, because they lacked the necessary measurement equipment, the neighborhood clinic was unable to accurately determine his height.
A BBC reporter set out to discover Abdul Samed’s true height. After finding the right structure to measure Samed’s height against because he is taller than most of the houses in the village, they discovered a wall that was tall enough to record his height and discovered that his actual height was 7ft 4 inches. He is still very tall but the tallest man in the world is 8 feet 2.8 inches tall.
In an interview with the BBC, he said:
‘The way they measure me, I cannot say everything is perfect. I’m still growing tall. Who knows, maybe one day I may get to that height too.
He added:
“Every three months of four months I grow… If you’ve not seen me for three months or four and you see me, you’d realise I have increased.”
When Abdul was 22 years old and residing in Ghana’s capital Accra, he first became aware of his abnormal height gain. He described how one morning he woke up to discover that his tongue had grown so large in his mouth that he was unable to breathe normally.
What is ‘Marfan Syndrome’?
The tall Ghanaian citizen has Marfan Syndrome, which has caused his spine to be unusually curled. The genetic condition affects the connective tissues of the body, including the heart, eyes, blood vessels, and bones. Abnormally lengthy limbs are one of Marfan Syndrome’s most obvious symptoms.
According to the physicians, Samed will require brain surgery to stop the growth.
Sulemana Abdul Samed plans to get married and see how his kids will look like

“I have plans of getting married, taking a wife and giving birth to see how my children will look like.”
The tallest man in Ghana also revealed in the interview that he is actually okay with his appearance and has accepted that it is how God created him. He added:
“This is how Allah chooses it for me and then, I am okay. I don’t have a problem with the way God has created me.”
A local celebrity, Awuche has become an icon in his community with many women approaching him on a daily basis being attracted by his height and wanting to take pictures with him.
“When ladies want to take a photo with me, they normally want me to put myself on them…to hold them so that they can feel they are taking a picture with the tallest man. Every three to four months, I grow tall.”
Before getting married, Samed wants to sort out his health
One day, he would love to get married and start a family, but he wants to first focus on improving his health.
His top concern is to try to raise money for plastic surgery to treat a terrible skin condition that was brought on by the excessive growth of one limb and affects the leg, ankle, and foot.
Awuche, though, showed no sign of giving up as he looked at his bandaged toes.
