William Patrick Roache is an actor who is prominent for his role as Ken Barlow in the ITV soap operas Coronation Street when it was first aired on December 9, 1960.

He was born on April 25, 1932, in Basford, Nottingham England to Joseph Vincent Roache and Hester Vera.

Roach entered the British Army and he quit in 1956 when he was in the rank of captain.

He then decided to pursue a career in acting. Roache began with minor roles like in the film The Bulldog Breed where he was a worker at a space centre. He acted a major role in a Television play titled Marking Time, immediately after he got into Coronation Street in 1960.

Guinness World records recorded him as the longest-serving TV star.

He was also rewarded for his part as Ken Barlow, the British Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.
